Our Call To Full-Time Ministry
In May of 1975, God broke my heart with a dynamic message from the Word of
God. That day was the beginning of a new full life of commitment to Christ.
A month later I went forward in a church-service and surrendered- for full-time
service. I didn't know how, I didn't know when, all I knew, was God wanted
me full-time in the ministry of reaching people for Christ.
In October, we were asked to attend a youth meeting of the Baptist Youth
Fellowship at our church. We arrived a few minutes late to the meeting. When
we enter the room, the youth leader handed me the book he was using to teach
the young people. As he handed me the book, he said, "I am glad you are
here, I have had it up to here with these kids, from now on they are yours."
Then he left the room. That was how we became the new youth leaders at the
Linda Baptist Church. After that youth meeting I informed my Pastor that I
would lead the youth but that I would need to be trained. He called the Word
of Life Clubs Missionary. Susan and I were trained for the club leadership
position. In January of 1976 God directed in our lives. He wanted us in youth
ministry as a youth pastor or Word of Life Missionary. We sought the Lord's
leading for the next year. In January of 1981 my pastor offered us the ministry
as the full time youth pastor of the church. We were also scheduled to attend
Word of Life Missionary Training School in January at Schroon Lake, New York.
I was very anxious to quit my secular job and get busy doing the work I believed
God called me to do. I called Rick Brooks, my Word of Life Clubs Missionary,
and discussed the situation with him. Rick said it was great that the church
had hired me, but encouraged me to go to the school if I believed Word of
Life could be a possibility in the future. My wife and I attended the school.
On Wednesday night, January 14, 1981, God made it clear that He wanted Susan
and me to be Word of life Missionaries.
